There is a rock em sock em little band
of Shetland Sheepdogs who roam the land,
following the Energizer bunny hand in hand,
waiting for him to run out of battery power.
But he never seems to slow down a bit,
with our grand children this crew is a hit,
some grown ups have to give up and quit
because their energy powers are only an hour
Now it seems like many years in the past
when Chase came to our home at long last
but he did not at first follow because of class.
We knew he was welcome into our little home,
as Star, Petey and Chloe took him into tow,
pop corn to be caught which Mom would throw
and together these four sheltie would grow.
Chloe birthed three tri-colored pups, we kept two,
rose bushes were gone they could not chew
and by their behavior we certainly had a clue.
Our sheltie clan grew with Kyle and Connor man,
soon the younger pups learned from the mature,
many exploits and chews we had to endure,
but for the chewing mom had a real good cure
and Chase became the head of this sheltie clan.
We were proud to have six sheltie in our care,
in all their torn pads and cuts we were there
and those held up paws their pain we can bare,
but none of us will ever forget Chase, our old man.
When we see Star, Kyle, Chloe, Connor and Petey too
running in a line after something we have a good clue,
that they will never forget Chase with whom they grew.
It is Chase, not the Energizer bunny leading the band.
Footnote: Chase came into our home in
August 1998. This is our first Christmas without him and everyone misses
our grand old man.
But our shelties know he is still with them and is
leading their merry band but all of them wait for the Energizer bunny to run out
of juice where they can pounce on him. Smiles!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Chase!
