About Tini

I am born in the Netherlands, came to Canada in 1953. My profession is a classical ballet teacher and Dance Drama. I have choreographed many Liturgical events, of sermons within several Denominations. My favorite! Became hard of hearing through a result of a dynamite blast. Now in my "old" age it is not getting any better, the reason I got interested in Sign Language. I am so fortunate that my husband Henk became interested as well so, if the time arrives that I can not hear at all we have a way of communicating with each other. We already do that in noisy or busy surroundings.

During my ballet years I met Valerie in Copenhagen Denmark, about the Dance notation. I knew an other system of notating dance, but when I saw hers, she won me over immediately as it was such a clear and easy to read system. The same is to be said about the Sign Writing. I just fell in love with it. I am teaching it now to our group of children and they now have their poems and writings on Jerry Spillman's Poetry side. We hope to get a pen-pall section going some day.

So thank you Denny for this opportunity and for the honor of having it on the web.

About SignWriting

The SignWriting system (developed at the Center for Sutton Movement Writing, Ca., USA), is a writing system for deaf sign languages. In SignWriting, signs are represented as figures made up of graphic symbols, each symbol schematically representing an important aspect of the sign gestures: hand configurations, hand and finger movements, contacts, facial expressions, etc. SWML (SignWriting Markup Language) is an XML-based format that we are developing for the storage and processing of SignWriting texts and dictionaries, allowing the interoperability of SignWriting savvy applications and promoting web accessibility to deaf people in their own natural languages. SSS.svg is a standard representation of the whole SignWriting symbol sequence as SVG symbols, allowing the flexible rendering of signs written in SignWriting as graphical elements in web pages.
