Lancelot is the hero of boys my age. Forgiving of his faults, envious of his steel like valor and wishing to rescue a maiden in distress. So when this rendering of him rescuing a damsel in distress from a "swamp critter" by Mikhail E. Merkurieff was seen at Elfwood, we requested his permission to display, which was granted.
Mikhail just returned from serving a 2 year mission for his church and did not have any opportunity to draw any finished fantasy pictures, but did get some practice though doing illustrations for teaching children's Sunday school lessons and drawing about a dozen portraits of other missionaries'.
The selection of this particular rendition of Lancelot in a swamp was to
compliment our poem about a boyhood adventure. The poem, which is below, is based upon actual events which transpired at about age ten. With just a few liberties, of course!
