Purposeful and supportive explained:
Hyper links when used like footnotes in a term paper would logically follow the text. When used in this manner for web sites, the text would be read and then the hyper link followed for additional information. Therefore they would serve a useful purpose and support the preceding text.
Meaningful hyper links can support learning in many ways, especially in creating supportive learning environments.
Hyper links which are both purposeful and supportive are not merely a collection of links, rather are included for their relevance to the material being read.
One thing we are concerned about is that the links off of that site to still other sites be appropriate as part of the entire site and that they add to the content rather than distracting from the content--if a site had many distracting or meaningless links to other sites, we would think twice about considering it as a Talking Hands Award selection.
