Our environmental surroundings, machinery, and daily lives expose all of us to the possibility of hearing loss. Therefore, all of us some day and in some way will be affected by hearing loss or deafness. The associations shown to the left are an indication that the problem of hearing loss and deafness are not isolated occurrences, rather a world wide problem and opportunity to become involved in helping, not only ourselves, but those who are in need today. Become involved with one or more of these organizations through your monetary support, volunteer service, or involvement with legislation on the national or local level which will empower our deaf and hard of hearing.

The Singapore Association for the Deaf is a member of the National Council of Social Service/Community Chest of Singapore. It is also affiliated to the World Federation of the Deaf, to assist the Deaf to achieve a better quality of life and to enable them to integrate and contribute to society.
USAAD was incorporated in April of 1990. By-laws were written and USAAD was accepted as a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization with its own identification number. Interstate Deaf competition in Australia began with a friendly cricket match between South Australia and Victoria in 1895. The competition expanded to include tennis, table tennis, chess and draughts every two or three years in major capital cities in rotation. There were no official national organization and the "carnivals", as these competitions were called, were conducted on an ad hoc basis. At end of World War II nearly all states were taking part in more than one sport at the "carnivals".
