Martin Arashi born August 8, 1940 in Oxford, England, died October 10, 2006 in a Nepal India hospital.
Martin Arashi our first judge for the Talking Hands Award and we first met while both of us were attending Oxford University in 1986. In a collaborative effort a presence on the internet was established which included a very early notion of what is now the Talking Hands Award, available on main frames and non visual, having to wait until about 1992 and the Mosaic browser for any visual presentation of our collaborative effort.
Martin struggled with several forms of cancer over these past fifteen years, with periods of remission and reoccurrence. We kept in regular contact by phone and met upon occasion when either he or I traveled and were in an area which permitted a reunion. I would say more, but can not. I will always remember my friend and wanted you to know something about Martin, my brother whom I will miss more than mere words can convey.
