Windows 95 was revisited by the BBC on line and I took a look, you too possibly, if the technology section was read. Then as usual my mind began to wander off into little pockets of past, present and future experiences, so something to share from being along for the ride with software, hardware and browsers over the past twenty years.
Channels were a right hand side bar in Windows 95 which was a concept called push. We had no control over what content was "pushed our way." So channels fell into disfavor with Windows 95 and other releases, because we are inventive when it comes to finding what we want, we "pull information."
Pulling information has taken some sophistication with RSS, which of course gives me another opportunity to thank my brother Aiko for our AP community RSS feed, Rhonda and others who published our ABC Book of Award Givers (but only a few compared to the many who contributed) and those who truly care about our disABLED.
So what does all of this have in common, you may ask. Consider that there are numerous teaching devices or methods, like those mentioned earlier, and if we recognize that all of us do not either learn or grow mentally in the same way, varied methods or devices will reach the maximum number of people. Why? Because if there is a desire, the will of survival will find a way.
Now this old soul developed his first PDF file for on line consumption today and it is uploaded, along with coding for a print of the page omitting the graphics, which had previously been published and has nothing to do with this post, except to emphasize our desire to "pull information."
The Article has had 8,540 page visits as of this writing and the average read time is 4.2 minutes, which is curious considering that 6,255 unique URL's is slightly more than all AP's in the various communities. Being felicitous, of course.
A question to myself was obviously why, then thinking about our gift from brother Aiko those very few who published our little ABC Book of Award Givers and thankfully those in the AP community who consider our disABLED in their targeted audience of visitors, but with a smile I really know the answer.
The answer may be found in a significant increase world wide for those who would teach ASL and or its adaptations in other countries. The world as a whole is searching for a feeling of compassion and moral identity.
Would it be possible, remotely considered, that if the whole of the AP community became involved with pushing our intent to make the web a better place that there are in fact countless thousands who would pull what we are trying to accomplish through RSS and PDF, to name but a few?
