How We Create Web Pages and Why

Creating style and beauty is a domain of the graphic artist. Coding structure prevails in the hands of a "guru". So how can we all benefit from the graphic artist and the "guru" becoming one?

The obvious answer is to have both present in a production, which will inspire, motivate and encourage all of us, either as one creator or a combination of both.

Although most of us who create, do so with our own particular objectives in mind which may be to unleash the creative and often time dormant or unrealized part of ourselves; learn or explore new found technology; expand upon skills already learned; or to simply do something for the sheer joy of "just doing."

For whatever reason, there are various examples which we find or seek to accomplish our purpose, which include Zen Garden, award presenters, creations of friends or relatives or mull over alternatives in the sanctity of our own minds.

Then we emulate others with our own distinctive styles, are satisfied with our own individual creations or accomplish a production with a combination of both.

By their very nature Award Presenters give “standards” by which a visitor is judged according to what “they” have created, through the eyes and mind of the Award Presenter. In such instances a visitor could visit the varied AP’s and either comply with the specific “standards” of a particular AP or adopt selective “standards” of several or all AP’s. In the event of the latter a visitor would rightfully conclude that their creation might not satisfy a particular AP. After creating a production and if the sole purpose would be then to gain a recognition for creative effort (an award) the creator would have satisfaction that their creation has satisfied the “AP’s standards.”

If the singular source of “standards” was the Awards Community we would be left with a situation similar to the “browser wars” in years past in which some but not all of those who use the Internet would benefit.

While this white paper draws no conclusions as to the possible impact whether negative or positive with respect to the Award Community to influence productions it does serve to present itself as to what influence could be generated not by adopting a particular AP’s standards, but those “standards” which would benefit everyone and not a selective group like those who have absolutely no disABILITIES. There are common “standards” which do not mitigate “individuality”, give credit and appreciation to style and beauty married to coding structure and are enlightened by examples like those shown in Zen Garden.

Now with the how and why all of us create, let's look at a few "common standards" which benefit everyone, are very easy to accomplish, do not compromise individuality and do not alter existing productions to such an extent that our original purpose is compromised.

These are but a few. They serve to detail some of the "standards" of WAI and W3C, which are not written for a selective few, but all of us.
