In the land of little mud splattered boys,
are dragon tails behind a kite so high,
just give him more string, don't ask why.

So David, our only son, went sailing,
scampering with a tug on the string,
into the lofty heights the kite to swing.

While grandma and me planted rose,
took our eyes off David, we suppose,
and into a tall tree he did climb high,
nor did we see his kite in the sky.

With a freighted cry, we heard his plea,
while dangling up forty feet,
his wee ten year old body we see,
just before earth, his body did meet.

The sight of him slowly turning in air,
suspended as if with a hidden arm,
fell softly to earth, his body no harm.

And then grandma spoke gently to me,
look upward to heaven and you will see,
David's guardian angel smiling down,
nor any reason for a mom or dad to frown.
