I wish to make a nomination to your Talking Hands Award and I hope my reasons for doing so are abundantly clear.
About two years ago my twelve year old son and friends were playing around. As a prank my son placed a broken arrow in his ear and exclaimed he was shot. One of the boys pushed at the arrow he said to see if it came out the other ear. He was rushed into emergency surgery and quite frankly I was shocked to see the surgical team join hands in prayer and as the surgery proceeded classical music was played.
Six months later x rays revealed that there was no scar tissue and my son had retained 95% of his hearing, despite severe damage and dislocation of the stirrup, hammer and anvil. I honestly do not know whether prayer played a role, but I really sought to find for myself an answer, if there is an answer. In my internet travels I found Everyday Miracles: Medical Imagery in Ex-Votos
This quotation on the web site "Ex-votos...are a moving record of a nations, a stethoscope measure of its heart," Anita Brenner, Idols Behind Altars, 1929. I think in the case of my sons surgical team I have found "their heart" in the beautiful pages and I am thankful.
