NSF And the Birth of the Internet-Presented 281215

Absolutely fascinating! From the time the introduction played I was transfixed wanting to see more. NSF is the only federal agency whose mission includes support for all fields of fundamental science and engineering, except for medical sciences and they are tasked with keeping the United States at the leading edge of discovery in areas from astronomy to geology to zoology.

In addition to funding research in the traditional academic areas, the agency also supports "high-risk, high pay-off" ideas, novel collaborations and numerous projects that may seem like science fiction today, but which the public will take for granted tomorrow. NSF's public investment in science, engineering, education and technology helps to create knowledge and sustain prosperity. Read here about the Internet, microburst, Web browsers, extra solar planets, and more ... a panoply of discoveries and innovations that began with NSF support.

As I began to read the information displayed within their Discoveries section I knew this was a "must return" web site; a place of knowledge and learning that I could send my grandchildren to in order for them to gain educational enhancement and a place where I needed to be so I also could gain even more knowledge about this planet we live on.
