Philippine Web Accessibility Groups (PWAG) mission is to "teach and promote web accessibility in the Philippines as a method of making information accessible to all including persons with disabilities (PWD)." Based on historical accounts the government's concern for the disabled persons began as early as 1917 and the national concern for rehabilitation was manifested by non-government organizations as well, I have always been thankful for the long standing commitment in promoting an inclusive, barrier-free and rights-based society for people with disabilities in the Philippines.

The Asian and Pacific region in the twenty-first century is advanced by the Adaptive Technology for Rehabilitation, Integration and Empowerment (ATRIEV), who brought together the Department Manager of Malaysian Association for the Blind to meet a visually impaired leader from Vietnam According to them and PWAG which is the only organized group in Southeast Asia, probably in the whole Asia that promotes and teaches web accessibility. They don't have one in Malaysia so PWAG is one of a kind.

So you can read why I seek to nominated PWAG for the Talking Hands Award.

I realize that intent and mission are not enough to promote accessibility. In a television commercial is a phrase "show me the beef." While I can not "show" you any of the assistive techniques which (PWAG) uses for we who are disabled, I can "tell" you about a few.

All of us have heard in one form or another that the "holy grail" of web design is to merge the artist and technician into one, who presents accessibility and standards compliance into beauty and understanding. (PWAG) accomplishes that task with eye candy etched in a visitors memory.

First impressions aside, the resources contained within the website are freshly presented by a large group of young people, much younger than myself, who will make a difference for we who are disabled.
