My reasons for nominating Probability Tutorials by Noel Vaillant are firstly the tutorials are presented in PDF format which enables a visitor to download an le-earning experience to pursue at their own leisure.
Secondly the tutorials are readable and quite frankly written for either a novice or expert.
Thirdly to recommend what some might consider a very limited teaching and learning resource and attempt to dispel the self imposed narrow constraints that math places on the human psyche. All of us use math in our every day life and my own early young adult life when placed in a math enrichment class while in high school, literally kicking and screaming, led not only to my profession in math, but opened so many doors of both opportunity and exploration.
Fourthly when we consider the value of probability and the tutorials a little background may be in order. Although not written in a formal way as today by many of the persons detailed within the tutorial, early probability theorists which included Pierre de Fermat and Blaise Pascal (1654) and Christiaan Huygens (1657) developed mathematical approaches to winning at gaming (cards, dice and so forth). Today we apply probability in diverse areas like risk assessment, reputations and decisions in a democracy, product design and risk of failure, operations research and success or failure of organizations, groups and individual efforts across an infinite arena of pursuits.
