Joseph Cornell-Navigating the Imagination-Presented 280605

Opens offsite-Joseph Cornell-Navigating the Imagination-Presented 280605

The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) hosts 180 works of Joseph Cornell (1903-1972), many of which are contained in a Macromedia Flash multimedia presentation, which is eye candy for the mind, but more precisely the soul.

Cornell's exploration and presentation of imagination was very personal, but his goal was to inspire others in their pursuits of uplifting voyages into the imagination.  The Peabody presentation of Cornell's works is organized thematically through a mingling of the series, media and time frames in which he worked.

Cornell's life consisted of cabinets of curiosity, dream machines, natures theater, geographies of the heavens. bouquets of homage, crystal cages and chambers of time.  These provocative changing "boxes" and a thorough journey through the PEM presentation, lead me to make this nomination.
