The Mariners' Museum is set on a 550-acre woodland park with the five-mile Noland Trail around Lake Maury in Newport News, Virginia which is central to the Hampton Roads area between Williamsburg and Virginia Beach.
For those who have not had an opportunity to visit, there is an online exhibition which retraces the steps of the greatest explorers, the legacy and technological marvel of the USS Monitor including a full size replica, an exploration of the Chesapeake Bay area which is the United States of America's largest estuary, the Transatlantic slave trade, allied naval intelligence in WW II, birthing of the USA navy, the role of African-Americans in the Chesapeake Bay area and Women and the sea.
Additional online features include traveling exhibits, permanent collections and highlights, artifact of the month and an outstanding image collection.
