Losing Louisiana is more than a rich multimedia presentation by Digital Artwork. To this writer it is also a saga of unintended consequences of trying to harness the Mississippi River, which flows through New Orleans, Louisiana into the Gulf of Mexico.
Louisiana by natures design became the supplier of almost two-thirds of Americas oil, due to rich deposits in proximity to the Louisiana coast and the Port of New Orleans delivery capacity, yet had suffered an estimated annual loss of 25 square miles wetlands. Hurricanes Rita and Katrina during the 2005 hurricane season account for estimated loss of 100 square miles of wetlands. We are losing Louisiana, an American treasure which must be restored with bold initiatives and enlightened thought. To do otherwise impacts the lives of all our estimated 300 million citizens.
