Among the exhibitions of the New York Historical Society is that of Alexander Hamilton, who as a founding father of our republic, came from such unpromising origins.

An orphan, Hamilton held his first public office as a colonel in General George Washington's staff at age 20 and retired from public service at age 43 as inspector general of the Army.

The exhibition includes a time line for the period of 1745 through 1804.  Detailed with excellent drawings and photographs and complimented with in depth narrative, this web site serves as a bench mark for political discussions which raged at the time and continue even today.  Anyone who is even remotely interested states rights, the origins of our monetary system or landmark legal decisions will find this web site of significant value and interest.
