The National Forest is a forest in the making: a place of 200 square miles spanning
three counties in the English Midlands.
Starting with its inception in 1990 and school children planting trees, now with a limited professional staff and continued public support, approximately 5 million trees have been planted. The ultimate goal is to provide a national treasure which will reclaim abandoned coal mines, derelict land and other parcels within the spanning counties which will provide sustainable tree farming.
Literally a forest in the making, the National Forest provides inspiration on a large scale as to what can and will be accomplished through the determination of a nations citizenry, guidance and even handed approach by a government and the vision of conservation at its very best.
