Perkins School for the Blind - Presented 231019
The review of this web site was enlightening and historical as the school has a continuous period of service spanning over 170 years. Several direct quotes are taken from the web site, as I could not really do justice to the excellent content with my own hand.
Perkins' Web site employs various enhancements, which actively promote accessibility for people who are blind or visually impaired. The Perkins site was developed using a layout method known as
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) which allows for the most accessible design, and is compatible for all users whether or not they are visually impaired. Any device or software capable of displaying
Web content can access information which includes audio browsers, text-only browsers, screen-reading software and screen magnification software, among others.
"He assumed that the State owed to the blind an education... And he had faith that this education, if properly given, would make the same return to the State that its common education makes, by
enabling an important class of citizens to aspire to the rewards of industry and the dignity of independence." - Julia Ward Howe, speaking of her late husband, Samuel Gridley Howe, founder of
Perkins.
