In 2003 our first annual award was established with encouragement from our international judges. Award honorees from 2003 through present may be found below.
During the month following the close of a quarter, the Talking Hands Award judges shall be given a ballot of all the recipients for the quarter and the site receiving the most votes will represent the collective teaching and learning. The Talking Hands Award judges shall select among the four quarterly honoree's, the honored site for the year.
If we have a tie for a quarter or the year, the award co-coordinator will cast the tie breaking vote.
Then during December of the next year, our judging panel selects an annual honoree among the quarterly honorees.
Shown below are the Talking Hands Award annual award honoree's by year.
In 2007 our annual award honoree is International Childrens Digital Library (ICDL)™. The site suggests fun and great entertainment. The educational value is endless! While ICDL seems to be focused on children, adults could benefit from reading here as well.
I also enjoy the look and feel of the site which is an important aspect in keeping attention. A book worm character makes it fun to search for subject. I looked up galaxy and Mother Nature. Several selections were offered. Not to mention the quick click buttons for colors and other fun subjects to test.
The author has created an easy flow with the navigation and I love the zoom in feature for ease on my eyes. Awesome! A beautiful, fun, and completely educational site, that could do no less but leave us with something more in our everyday life. A great example of a Talking Hands Honoree! Bravo! C. J. Honored on 270822.
Our 2006 annual award honoree is USDA Forest Service-Celebrating Wildflowers. Within this website you will find a fusion of artists and technicians whose presentations in living color and flowing words appeal to a broad general audience with particular attention paid to those details which enable our youth and those less fortunate than ourselves. The agency is preparing a number of additional modules to expand the teacher resources and children activities. Honored 261206.
The 2005 annual award honoree is Walt Whitman Archive. Response's to Whitman are lively, colorful, and at times wildly extreme. These extraordinary views are one index to the power of Whitman's writings that prompted them. Honored on 250519.
The 2004 annual award honoree is Poetry From The Heart whose webmaster is Bernie Howe. Poetry is featured by the author as an introduction to eighteen poetic styles. Thus teacher, student and even a casual reader become immersed in excellent prose, style and a compliant and accessible method of presentation. Honored on 240504.
Our annual award honoree for 2003 is Witheridge, whose webmaster is David Taylor. Three of the quarterly honoree's voted for Witheridge and the lone honoree who did not was David Taylor. Such modesty would normally go unnoticed except for the fact that Witheridge has been watched with a careful eye as it developed into an exceptional website through the often frustrating path toward W3C and WAI compliance. David's experience and success has been an example of what a caring web designer can accomplish through hard work and patience. Honored on 230316.
Our Talking Hands honorees may be found either by searching by the year the honor was earned or by the teaching and learning element in which they excell.
